Boeing has opened its fourth assembly line for 737 Max aircraft near Seattle, aiming to improve its financial position and leverage its large order backlog. The line is located at the Everett factory, which also produces the 777, 767, and 777X models. Initially, about 1,000 employees will work here, with production rates being low. The Federal Aviation Administration has limited production to 38 aircraft per month in 2024, but CEO Kelly Ortberg mentioned the possibility of increasing to 47 aircraft per month. Boeing plans to reach 63 aircraft monthly to pay down debt and compete with Airbus SE. Fuselages for the aircraft are produced in Wichita, Kansas, and delivered to Seattle for final assembly. The new line was previously used for the production of the 787 Dreamliner. The first aircraft from the new line will be the 737 Max 10 for WestJet, which is awaiting certification. Boeing has also informed suppliers of the possibility of increasing production to 42 aircraft per month as early as October, with further increases planned for April and late 2026.
